KALQ: New keyboard layout for mobile devices

We all are familiar with the QWERTY keyboard as most of us are using such type of keyboard for our daily use. QWERTY is the most efficient typing layout for desktop and laptop but if you are using such keyboards in a smart phone or on a tablet some times it is annoying to type in such keyboards because of the congested arrangement of keys. So to avoid this problem scientists and researchers found a new way that we could type more efficiently in smart phones and tablets. KALQ was developed by researchers from the University of St. Andrews, and the Max Plank Institute for Informatics and Montana Tech. It was named after the row of letters at the right-bottom of the layout like wise of QWERTY layout. The researchers says that by practicing typing in KALQ, you can reach the QWERTY typing speed in 8 hours and can surpass your QWERTY typing speed with in 19 hours.


The KALQ is better for thumb typing where the keys are located on both edges of the screen helps the thumbs to get access to all the keys. Space keys are available on both sides of the layout which gives better access from every side. The thumb typing is better in KALQ than other touch screen keyboard layouts because of the arrangement of the keys. The keys which are used mostly are placed well in the layout where the thumb can access frequently. The researchers said they created the layout with the most advanced algorithm they have to locate users intention to move their thumbs. Also they are giving this as a free application to reach out to a mass of people.

You can download KALQ from Play store. There is no assurance that this will completely replace the QWERTY keyboard but this may make some change as like all others. For mobile devices KALQ is a better type of reach out.
